    When selling your items, it is advised to prepare what you’re going to sell before setting up your account, so that you know what you’re selling. Find out the cost of postage and packaging too. Quite often, a seller goes off the pricing of postage and packaging of other sellers who are selling the same kind of item, which turns out to be completely wrong and can lose money. Ebay is easy once you know what you’re doing but 98% of sellers do not know what they are doing. So, to avoid making the mistakes and losing money, use whatever’s the safest and cheapest way of sending your items to a customer and in a way they’re likely to appreciate.

    The cheapest way of packaging your items is to use whatever you have around the house if possible. You can Re-use old boxes or jiffy bags for example. Use old newspapers or shredded paper as padding to keep your item secure and safe. Alternatively, if you don’t have old packages or padding, go to ebay, you’ll find whatever you need at a much cheaper cost than you would going to a shop.

    For postage, weigh the item first, then, if you’re in the UK, go to the Royal Mail website where you’ll find a pricelist for sending packages and then you’ll know how much to charge your potential customer. If you don’t have anything to weigh your item, go to your local Post Office and they will gladly weigh it for you.

    Once you have accomplished the above and ready to list your item, be sure to have a good camera to take pictures with, preferably a digital camera. If you don’t have a camera, you’ll need a scanner to copy your pictures to your computer. It’s best to use natural light and take as many pictures as possible to have plenty to choose from. Try and have as many pictures as you can in your listing but remember after your first picture which is free, there is a fee for the following pictures.     You can virtually sell anything on ebay. The first item to be sold was a broken laser pointer. The buyer of this item was a collector of broken laser pointers. A few years ago, I came across a listing selling a pair of dirty grubby socks, which had plenty of bidders. But I wouldn’t recommend selling such things.
